Impressions from DelhiWood
Modern Woodwork – the Official Publication of DelhiWood 2019 interacted with several exhibitors and visitors, especially with those who participated in DelhiWood for the first time to know their impressions.
Breaking all the previous records, as many as 527 domestic and international companies from 35 countries participated in Delhi Wood 2019 to make it largest exhibition in the National Capital Region ever. The growing number of exhibitors and visitors in this year’s exhibition clearly reflects the positive growth trend of Indian furniture and woodworking industry, which is expected to grow by around 20 per cent over the next few years. The perfect management of the exhibition was complemented by the traffic-free roads, availability of decent hotels in the vicinity and a vibrant, business-friendly atmosphere.
In the words of Mr. Jürgen Köppel, President of Eumabois and CEO of Leitz Group, he always makes it a point to come to India and visit DelhiWood. The reason behind it, according to Mr. Köppel, is the steady growth of Indian woodworking industry. He also added that he is delighted with the fact that DelhiWood witnessed 40 percent growth this year.
Association of Wood-Based Industries (AWBI) in Bhutan participated in the exhibition along with 18 furniture and wood-based companies in Bhutan.
Mr. Kencho Tshering, Head of AWBI said, “Participating in DelhiWood is a quite good experience for AWBI and for the Bhutanese companies who participated in this exhibition for the first time. This will help us make Indian furniture manufacturers aware of Bhutan Teak. Our companies received good enquiries for wood panels, hardwood, plywood and handicrafts.”
Mr. Ashish Ramdin, General Manager of Green Wood World, a company based in Suriname, South America also expressed positive feedback.
“Home to over 400 different wood species, Suriname is a forest-rich country. Here in DelhiWood, we displayed extensive range of lumber and received quite a good response. From the interior of cars to furniture and construction, Surinamese wood can be used for varied purposes. We have been generating good enquiries from local Indian manufacturers. Currently, we export to countries like China, Germany, Oman and Vietnam. Banking on DelhiWood’s experience, we are all set to explore abundant business opportunities in India.”
Mr. M. Nagai who looks after Overseas Sales Division of Tsuzuki Corporation, a member of Japanese Wood Association, said, “This is the first time we are participating in an Indian exhibition. The main purpose is to make Indians aware of Japanese wood culture. We have been receiving a great response. I found that many people are curious and shown their interest in Japanese wood and wooden products. Japan has recently started exporting logs and lumber to Korea, China, Taiwan and now we are looking forward to export to India as well.”
